DSG Spring Impressions - Thanks To All!

We had a great turnout for our first Spring Impressions dental event to thank everyone who has helped us throughout the year. Everyone ate well, laughed a lot, and learned more. Spring Impressions II 2009 cannot come soon enough.

Our hard working DSG team was honored and Nobel Biocare provided hands on training for those in attendance, which offered three dental CE credits. Our dental lab also supplied us with helpful information. Over 25 dentists attended and some team members as well.

The clinical focus of the event was the benefits i-CAT digital dental scanning technology offers Drs. Brian and Tania Howlett’s patients and the dentists they work with. The ability to see more means they can do more for them and more precisely. Understanding the basic anatomy through accurate planning and then navigating each patient’s specific oral condition is essential to ensuring success for both patient and doctor.

Dr. Tania Howlett also spoke about many exciting local and global outreach ideas she would like to enhance and develop over the next many months. Last fall she participated in, and was a group sponsor of, the Nashville Cares AIDS Walk. Dr. Howlett wants to increase their fundraising efforts by including more local dentists and Nashville residents in the event. (More on Nashville Cares.)

Their global outreach is centered on developing education and dental health related resources for children and families in Africa. For example, one community they are connected with now teaches children in a school that has dirt floors. Small improvements in their daily lives, educational situation, and dental and overall health can help them overcome many other obstacles. They are planning a research trip for early 2009.

Dr. Howlett also invited attendees to fill out questionnaires to help DSG improve their services for dentists and patients. One of the key elements discovered was the need for more educational resources to understand in more detail oral anatomy through advanced diagnostic technology.

Overall the atmosphere was very welcoming, comfortable and focused on collaboration rather than competition. Attendees saw a lot of value in having a lab representative there to explain new material and technology that can help dentists improve the process for them and their patients. Dental marketing was also discussed, with plans to expand the topic next year.
